Today we take you to the hotel check at Finca Can Canals on Mallorca. As the country hotel is known for its excellent restaurant, we are particularly looking forward to this visit.

The path hints at romance and tranquillity

As soon as you arrive at Can Canals in the south of Mallorca, you can sense the tranquil, rural idyll that surrounds the country hotel near Sa Rapita. Just two kilometres away from the lively beaches and tourist resorts, all you can hear is the chirping of crickets and the rustling of palm fronds in the gentle breeze. Wonderful silence surrounds the traditional rural hotel Can Canals.

The original character of Mallorca can still be felt here. Surrounded by wide fields and meadows, the small country hotel with just 12 rooms and one flat is surrounded by nature. The rooms are spread over different parts of the building and have retained their typical Mallorcan charm. Traditional decorations, turned beds, wooden beamed ceilings and stone floors show the original Mallorca. We take a seat on the terrace in front of our room and let our gaze wander.

Two pools and three kittens

A small kitten daringly scurries past and tries to catch a grasshopper in the perfectly manicured lawn. Tall palm trees and bright orange flowering rampion sway gently in the wind. What we particularly like: The Canals has two outdoor pools (a chlorine pool and a saltwater pool). The rooms are spread out in different houses along the pools. This ensures that the guests are spread around the property and that everyone has enough space in the shade or in the sun by the pool.

Super nice: the saltwater pool

We were particularly taken with the pretty saltwater pool. By the way: We often hear from our customers that they don't want a saltwater pool. They probably automatically think of the high salt content of the sea. We can reassure you. The salt content in the saltwater pool is very mild and very well tolerated by the skin and eyes and is definitely better for swimwear than a conventional chlorine pool.
With its oval, curved shape, the saltwater pool at Canals nestles beautifully into the well-tended gardens. The water gently deepens, so you can simply sit at the edge, cool off in the refreshing water and enjoy the wonderfully peaceful idyll.

Dinner - a dream!

After a relaxing day by the pool and a game or two with the kittens, we look forward to dinner. The waiters and waitresses are all extremely friendly and attentive to the guests. Jose in particular, who has been serving food and drinks to guests at Can Canals for many years, impresses with his genuine friendliness and sympathy. Under the shady canopy of leaves, with a view of the pool and palm trees and surrounded by romantic lighting, we enjoy the end of our day's holiday at Can Canals.

And it is truly delicious. The restaurant at Can Canals cooks to a very high standard. For starters, there are typical Mallorcan croquettes and delicious coca mallorquina with cod or suckling pig. This is followed by delicious sea bass, suckling pig and a flavoursome fillet of beef. 

To finish, we savour a succulent coulant and the fruity lemon tart. Each course is a real flavour experience and is lovingly served on the plate. Unfortunately, there are no photos of the dessert as it was already too dark. But rest assured, the dessert was delicious! The next morning gets off to a similarly delicious start with a hearty breakfast of fresh fruit, vegetables, local sausage and cheese specialities and a selection of delicious breads and freshly baked crêpes. 

Rustic country hotel with a perfect restaurant

Summary: We really enjoyed our stay at Can Canals. The rooms are simple and somewhat rustic, but cosy. But above all, the Can Canals surprised us in a very positive way with its cuisine. Another highlight is the proximity to the nearest beaches and coastal towns (just under 2.5 km). If you are looking for a quiet country hotel but still want to be close to beaches and infrastructure, there is almost no other country hotel that is more strategically located.

Who is Finca Canals the right hotel for?

Both families and couples like to book the Canals. In the summer months, there are certainly more families on site, some of whom find a separate children's bedroom in the spacious family junior suites. In the low season, the hotel is often booked by couples who want to enjoy the authentic Mallorca far away from the lively tourist centres.
