Arrival in Tenerife: anticipation begins on the plane

As soon as we land, we press our noses against the small window of the aeroplane to get the best view of the island of Tenerife. When the doors of the plane open, the anticipation builds.

Tenerife North Airport is small and straightforward. A few minutes after landing, we are already holding our suitcases and hire car keys in our hands. On the short way to the Hotel Jardin de la Paz near La Matanza in the north of Tenerife, the excitement continues to build. Unfortunately, just in time for our visit to the hotel, we caught the Calima, a super-tropical weather condition that unfortunately clouded our view somewhat.

First impressions at Jardin de la Paz: arrive and feel at home

As soon as you arrive, the snow-white buildings with their numerous roofs and turrets stretch upwards on the steep coast, palm trees and blooming bougainvilleas frame the view of the blue sea. A holiday mood immediately sets in. We can hardly wait to open the gate to the Jardin de la Paz on Tenerife.

The resort manager Lutz welcomes us warmly and shows us around the beautiful grounds on our first tour. The tropical garden is picturesquely laid out: winding paths and steps lead through oleander, hibiscus, lemon trees and countless palm species. The bushes rustle again and again, the shimmering blue geckos and lizards briefly seek shelter, only to loll around in the sun again a little later.

Tropical garden & breathtaking pool area

No matter where we move, the view of the ocean is omnipresent. The centrepiece of the complex are the two beautifully designed pools, which are perfectly integrated into the garden. With sun loungers, daybeds and beach chairs, all guests will find a place to retreat. The heated pools offer swimming fun at any time of year, and those who wish can use the sauna.
 

Modern holiday villas with sea views

The villas are scattered around the extensive grounds behind lush bushes and palm trees. We move into Villa Alberto, a comfortable semi-detached villa with two separate bedrooms. One of them has a marvellous sea view of the Atlantic Ocean. Two bathrooms, a fully equipped modern kitchen including dining area with garden view and a cosy living room plus covered terrace offer plenty of comfort. We were particularly impressed by the private garden with daybed, beautiful plants and breathtaking sea views.

Culinary delights at the Jardin de la Paz

Those who wish can cater for themselves. The well-equipped kitchens in the villas offer plenty of space for breakfast and home-cooked meals. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast every morning on the atmospheric restaurant terrace with a view of the garden and the sea: delicious coffee, smoked salmon, antipasti, sweet pastries, fruit, individual egg dishes and fresh juices. What more could you want?

Once a week there is a three-course dinner on the restaurant terrace. If you wish, you can also book in advance to enjoy an exclusive special event cooked by hotel chef Alexander in his own villa. Alternatively, we recommend the ‘Felix Food and Wine’ restaurant, where we had an excellent meal within walking distance of the Hotel Jardin de la Paz.

Active holidays & excursions on Tenerife

Even if it is hard to tear ourselves away from the breathtaking pool area, we explore Tenerife: romantic towns such as Garachico, the lively city of Puerto de la Cruz or the Playa de Las Teresitas with its fine Sahara sand for beach walks and swimming opportunities offer a varied contrast programme to the perfect hotel chill-out. Tenerife offers perfect conditions for hiking and active holidays at any time of year.

A highlight for us was without question the whale-watching tour in the south of the island near Las Galettas: pilot whales and dolphins swam alongside our boat. What we particularly like

The combination of a luxurious hotel in Tenerife and an authentic ambience is particularly impressive. The beautifully landscaped tropical garden, the quiet location by the sea and the spacious and very stylish villas create a very special private atmosphere that is perfect for both couples and families. Add to this the warm hospitality and you immediately feel welcome.

Tenerife: the perfect destination for any time of year

What we find particularly remarkable: Tenerife is universally recognised as the perfect winter destination. If you want to top up your sun reserves in winter and enjoy a beach holiday or an active holiday, Tenerife offers perfect conditions.

But what is hardly known is that Tenerife really is the perfect year-round holiday destination. With around 300 days of sunshine and temperatures between 25-30 degrees, Tenerife is also perfect for travelling in summer, the low season there. If Mallorca is too hot or too crowded for you, Tenerife offers the perfect climate and a peaceful holiday atmosphere. We enjoyed strolling along the promenade of Puerto de la Cruz - in the middle of August - in very pleasant temperatures, enjoying a relaxing beach holiday with plenty of space or simply chilling out in a beach chair.
