How it all began: a trip that changed our lives
It was a spur-of-the-moment idea. Knut and I had only just met, wanted to go somewhere warm, and ended up in Mallorca. I was sceptical. Ballermann, mass tourism, overcrowded pools. I’d seen it all before. That wasn’t what I wanted.
But Knut assured me: “That’s not the Mallorca I’m showing you.” We drove into the countryside in a hire car. Past olive groves, stone walls, and blooming bougainvilleas. And then we stood on the terrace of a small finca hotel, looking out over the vastness of the island, and that’s when Mallorca had me. That peace and quiet. That warmth. Those warm-hearted hosts who shared genuine insider tips instead of handing out glossy brochures. That privacy amidst beautiful nature. From that moment on, we knew: we want to show more people this Mallorca. That was in 2008. Since then, fincahotels.com has been our labour of love.
