Visiting Hotel Sa Franquesa Nova on Mallorca
From time to time we visit our finca and country hotels so that we can regularly get an impression of the conditions on site. This way we can ensure that each hotel meets the high quality standards of fincahotels.com and that we can select and recommend the right hotel for you when advising you.
We have been with the Sa Franquesa Nova almost from day one - back when the beautiful design hotel opened in 2011, the garden was still relatively sparse. It was beautifully landscaped and you could see what it would look like in a few years. Today, the small country hotel near the east coast of Mallorca unfolds its full charm: In the meantime, all palm trees, plants and bushes have grown tall. Greenery and blossoms are everywhere. Lush rose bushes adorn the path, frogs sit on the lily pads by the pond and every now and then a chicken scurries by. The garden is like an oasis where you can retreat with a good book or take a walk and enjoy the beauty of the Mediterranean landscape.
Stylish Mediterranean ambience
As soon as you arrive at the hotel, you feel like you're on holiday. You pass lush lemon trees that hang full of fruit in late summer. Invitingly, the main house with its pretty pale green shutters opens its doors and lets you enter the cosy entrance hall, where Aina and Barbara warmly welcome their guests. Here you can make yourself comfortable even on cool days or in the evening, when the fireplace crackles and provides cosy comfort. Self-service drinks are available in the fridge all day.
Hundreds of lemon trees
We have been lucky enough to stay in this charming hotel several times. All rooms are modern and very cosy. Suite No. 23 on the upper floor, which we were allowed to occupy, delighted us with its French balcony overlooking the pond and large terrace with a fantastic panoramic view over the charming little roofs of the hotel as well as over the surrounding meadows and fields. A very modern bathroom with a ground-level rain shower provides the perfect start to the day.
But also the double room deluxe in the annexe towards the car park and the garden had a lot of charm. Here we felt almost like we were in a private holiday home with a view of the beautiful lemon garden. Our son had a wonderful time running through the garden and enjoyed collecting the countless lemons that were hidden everywhere in the grass like Easter eggs, while we relaxed and enjoyed the heavenly peace and the beautiful view. Of course, the double rooms are smaller than the suites, but still offer enough space for small families even with an extra bed.
Paradise for swimmers and animal lovers
The highlight for children are, of course, the animals in the hotel. Chickens scurry through the garden and next to the pool, pony, horse and a sweet donkey-zebra mix have their home. They are always happy to be petted.
The large saltwater pool is beautifully landscaped and invites you to spend the day relaxing on its comfortable daybeds. The view sweeps far across the surrounding landscape and the tranquillity that surrounds the hotel is heavenly. Thanks to its length of 22 metres, the pool is not only suitable for splashing around. Incidentally, many of our customers have reservations when they hear that it is a saltwater pool, worried that the salt content might sting their eyes and cause skin irritation. The opposite is true. A saltwater pool is much less stressful on the skin and clothing than a classic pool that uses a lot of chlorine in the summer months. The salt content is much lower than in the sea, for example, and it is also much more pleasant when diving.
Delicious food with a beautiful view
Of course, the beautiful Sa Franquesa Nova Hotel also has its own restaurant. In the morning, a rich breakfast buffet is set up here, with different types of bread and rolls, cereals, fresh fruit, sausage, ham and cheese varieties and delicious sweet pastries and cakes. Freshly squeezed orange juice, coffee specialities and eggs to order are also not missing. On cool days - fortunately this is rare on Mallorca during the season - breakfast can be taken in the light-flooded restaurant. Normally, however, there are plenty of tables under the covered pergola with a view of the beautiful garden and the day starts in peace with a heavenly view of the palm trees, pool and wide landscape. In the evening, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset here during dinner and at night the pool is atmospherically illuminated.
Sa Franquesa Nova is about 22 km from the coast. Nevertheless, you can easily reach various beaches and bays along the east coast in 20-30 minutes by car. The drive by car is picturesque and goes through rolling hills and past wide fields. By the way, the area is also ideal to explore by bike.
For whom is Sa Franquesa Nova the right hotel?
Although the Sa Franquesa Nova is not a typical family hotel, children are very welcome. Many of our customers book the beautiful hotel near the east coast of Mallorca again and again with their children, or because they have an addition to the family in the meantime, they continue to enjoy coming to the wonderful hotel.
Those who do not necessarily need two rooms will find enough space for an extra bed in the cosy double rooms and suites (consist of only one room) and in summer you can also wonderfully enjoy the time on your own terrace or in the beautiful salon of the hotel while the little ones sleep. The Sa Franquesa Nova is also popular with couples and solo travellers who want a sophisticated hotel with an attractive design and cosy rooms. Thanks to its location, it is ideal for exploring the east coast and the numerous bays and towns. But Palma is also easily reached by car in about three quarters of an hour. If you want to do some sports during your holiday, you will find good conditions for jogging and cycling on the extensive finca grounds and in the surrounding area. There is also a modern fitness area in the hotel.
