Visiting Finca Albellons on Mallorca
From time to time we visit our finca and country hotels so that we can regularly get an impression of the conditions on site. In this way, we can ensure that each hotel meets the high quality standards of fincahotels.com and that we can select and recommend the right hotel for you when advising you.

When I think of my first memories of Mallorca, I see gnarled olive trees, stony paths, skilfully layered dry stone walls, blooming bougainvilleas and hear the sweet sound of silence, interrupted only by the romantic sound of sheep. My love affair with Mallorca began around 15 years ago, right here at Finca Albellons. Even today, arriving here is like coming home. Even today, the distant view over half the island casts a magical spell over me. The vastness is a treat for the eyes, the heavenly peace sounds divine to my ears, which are plagued by everyday noises.

Once an unprofitable site
Joan greets us with a sincere laugh and we have spent many an evening sitting on the terrace with him, listening to the crickets chirping and his stories. The days when the unprofitable property with its gnarled olive trees and rough terrain, which made harvesting the olives almost impossible, was transformed into one of the first rural hotels on Mallorca. We have been following the story of Juan and his family and Albellons Parc Natural almost from the beginning - and since then we have had a deep connection and love for the romantic hotel and his family.

Today a magical country hotel
The magic that this country hotel in the north of Mallorca has cast over us for 20 years still holds true today. It's a warm late summer's day and we've booked into this beautiful little hotel in the mountains. We take a seat on the beautiful restaurant terrace and once again enjoy the marvellous view of the valley. It's a slightly hazy day, but that doesn't detract from the magic. We savour a few dishes from the snack menu, which the dedicated kitchen team offers hungry guests well into the afternoon. The lunch menu includes juicy hamburgers, really tasty and crispy croquettes and, of course, the famous Pa amb Oli. The Pa amb Olis are also sometimes served for breakfast and they used to get me out of bed early and have lost none of their appetising taste ever since. The breakfast at Finca Albellons has always been spectacular and offers a wide selection of local specialities and fresh fruit and vegetables. The ham is freshly cut from the leg, while local sausage specialities, various cheeses and homemade gató de ametlla, the Mallorcan almond cake, are served in the morning to ensure a perfect start to the day.

In the evening, the kitchen team conjures up perfect Mediterranean dishes. The menu, with a choice of meat or fish courses, changes every week. We were really lucky, this week we had one of Knut's favourite dishes ‘Lomo con Col’, a wonderfully aromatic Mallorcan dish and an Asian-inspired salmon on a delicious bed of vegetable rice.

Gentle ripples and craggy rocks
Before breakfast, I enjoy a tour of the finca's beautiful grounds while Knut browses a little on the secluded terrace, which all the suites now have. Finca Albellons is a wonderful place to spend time. Numerous seating areas invite you to linger and offer a marvellous view of the natural surroundings. A natural stone staircase winds picturesquely past pine and olive trees and leads straight up to the pool. Many a time I have enjoyed the marvellous view and the gentle lapping of the refreshing water here.

Cosy Balinese beds have made way for the original loungers and provide plenty of shade on sunny days. Here you can relax in the marvellous tranquillity of the Tramuntana and listen to the silence. If you have a good eye, you are sure to spot the odd goat climbing skilfully on the rugged rocks opposite.

Pristine nature
Even after many years and countless finca hotels visited on Mallorca, Finca Albellons has lost none of its charm for me. I love the romantic hinterland of Inca, the gentle, green meadows, fields where sheep and goats graze, the rugged cliffs that tower artfully up to the Tramuntana - a Unesco World Heritage Site - and offer ideal conditions for hiking, as well as the unspoilt nature of this area, which seems so far away from the mass tourism of the coastal resorts.

For whom is Finca Albellons the right hotel?
The Finca Albellons is a paradise for all those who want to enjoy Mallorca away from mass tourism. If this paradise were easily accessible, it would have long since lost its charm in the triumph of mass tourism. So holidaymakers in Finca Albellons have to be prepared for sleepy, romantic but also narrow country lanes and longer walks if they want to get to the beach (around 25 minutes), the nearest weekly market (10 minutes) or one of the surrounding restaurants (10 minutes). The latter is bearable, as the Finca Albellons itself has a very good restaurant. It is also worth mentioning that the sister hotel Binibona Parc Natural is located at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains - around 3 minutes away by car - which also has a restaurant, meaning that guests of both hotels have two restaurants at their disposal.
So if you don't feel like dining at Finca Albellons every evening, you can also dine at the neighbouring sister hotel if you book in advance. Even though the Finca Albellons is very family-friendly and has a separate pool for small children, we would rather recommend the neighbouring Binibona Parc Natural to families with very small children who are still a little wobbly on their feet. The uneven natural stone paths could be problematic for lively toddlers but also for people with mobility problems. Hikers, nature lovers and those who want absolute peace and relaxation are in good hands at Finca Albellons. Incidentally, the hotel also offers a free hiking tour once a week. Those who prefer to go out on their own can get lots of valuable tips on picturesque hiking routes in the region.
