The hinterland of Inca

The secret paradise of Mallorca

Majorca's landscape is more diverse than almost any other island. Often mentioned are the southwest with its dazzling places like Port Andratx or Portals Nous or the south with its world-famous "Caribbean beach" Es Trenc. One region, however, is hardly known and is considered the secret paradise of Mallorca by connoisseurs and lovers of the island. We are also completely in love with this wonderful area.

We are referring to the hinterland of Inca, the leather town in the northeast of the island. The region, also known as the "gateway to the Tramuntana", is so scenic and partly unspoilt that you absolutely have to pay a visit to this stretch of land and because of its really convenient location, it is ideal for a truly varied holiday in a finca hotel or boutique hotel.

In the shadow of the leather town

The three very picturesque little villages of Selva, Caimari and Moscari stand in the geographical shadow of the large and admittedly unattractive town of Inca. Involuntarily, Inca inevitably shields these sleepy villages and this enchanting stretch of land from the incursion of masses of tourists. Good, say some, bad for business, say others, because there is so much to experience in the region. Whether the famous olive festival in Caimari or the mushroom festival in Mancor de la Vall, which always await many visitors in mid-November. But the weekly markets in the region are always worth a visit, as are the countless handicraft businesses or shoe manufactories.

Palma or Alcudia - you are spoilt for choice

Many holidaymakers also don't know that from here you can be in Palma in just 35 minutes or in 30 minutes at what is probably Mallorca's most beautiful beach, Playa der Muro, up in the north near Alcudia. So the region is by no means as remote as one might think at first glance! In comparison, the east coast with its small and therefore overcrowded bays in summer is much further away from all attractions and therefore less conveniently located. The hinterland of Inca is the ideal place for a quiet, varied and completely relaxed finca holiday on Mallorca, where you certainly don't have to do without anything.

In this region you will find many authentic restaurants such as Miceli in Selva. This small restaurant is owned by Marga Coll, currently Spain's best chef, or Es Parc. The wonderful restaurant with its grilled specialities, which are very popular with the locals, is located directly opposite the boutique hotel Can Cota in Selva and offers a fantastic view.  Ca Na Toneta in Caimari also attracts international attention, and Tim Mälzer has been spotted here a time or two. Instead of tourist restaurants in the coastal towns with often poor cuisine and overpriced prices, you will find exceptional restaurants with culinary surprises in this part of the country.

The region can be explored picturesquely by rental car, hiking or cycling. Carina and Giorgio from Let‘s meet Mallorca in Moscari offer a special way to spend the day and discover the beauty of the area. With great attention to detail, they have put together a tour that takes you through sleepy alleys and romantic villages, along picturesque country lanes and to breathtaking viewpoints. On modern e-scooters, you go at your own pace along the 28-kilometre route.

While the wind blows around your nose, you will effortlessly discover the romantic hinterland of Mallorca with its beautiful villages, gnarled olive trees, sheep dozing in the sun and picturesque landscapes. Just stop and enjoy a picnic in a meadow or enjoy a pan amb oli in one of the recommended cafés in Selva or Moscari, and easily connect with the locals. For us, this is the perfect way to discover this picturesque region in a relaxed way. By the way, you can find a detailed report on our german travel blog www.genau-meine-welt.com.

The fabulous natural scenery is unique: gentle valleys with carob tree plantations and almond trees, rugged cliffs with wild goats and the road that smoothly makes its way from Caimari up to the monastery of Lluc and on into the fabulous Sierra de Tramuntana must be seen with your own eyes. As this landscape has more to offer than can be discovered during a day trip, there are wonderful small Hotels in the Tramuntana to spend a truly paradisiacal holiday on Mallorca.

We have put together the most charming hotels in the hinterland of Inca. We promise, once you've been there, you'll see Mallorca with completely different eyes.

Finca Albellons

Binibona

One of the most typical finca hotels on Mallorca is probably Finca Albellons near Binibona. Today's small hotel grew out of a farm run by the Vicens family many years ago, when agritourism was still in its infancy on Mallorca. Over the years, the former insider tip with its 16 rooms has become one of the most popular rural hotels on the island.

What we particularly like: The uniquely quiet location is dreamlike. You hear nothing here except the soft and soothing tinkling of the goat bells.

Son Ametler

Moscari

The charming country hotel Son Ametler with its only 14 rooms is a dreamlike place. Lovingly run by Paula, the small hotel on Mallorca offers beautifully furnished rooms and a truly beautiful garden of which the operators are very proud. Fragrant lavender, beautifully flowering bougainvilleas and hibiscus enchant the lovingly landscaped garden of the small country hotel into a peaceful and colourful oasis.

What we particularly like: Especially couples will spend wonderful holidays in the dreamlike romantic rooms of the small country hotel.

The Binibona Parc Natural also belongs to the Vicenc family and is run by brother Sebastian. Located slightly below the Finca Albellons, the hotel is somewhat larger with 20 rooms and suites as well as two holiday homes and is perfectly suited for families due to its room categories.

What we particularly like: Due to its very spacious suites, the hotel is perfect for families with several children.

Virrey Prime Boutique Hotel

Inca

Practically at the gateway to the Tramuntana, before Inca, is the Virrey Prime Boutique Hotel. The hotel is a beautiful place, steeped in history. Even today, the long history of the romantic house can be felt in every corner. After extensive renovation, you can enjoy the charm of times long past paired with the most modern comforts here within the historic walls.

What we particularly like: Thanks to its convenient location, you can quickly reach the beaches of the Bay of Alcudia and Pollenca, but also the mountains or the island metropolis of Palma.

Can Cota Boutique Hotel

Selva

Near the church in the sublime village of Selva, on the outskirts of the village, is the Can Cota Boutique Hotel. The small hotel looks quite inconspicuous from the outside. But once you are inside the hotel and enjoy the view as far as Alcudia and the blue sea, you won't want to leave. Only 10 rooms, a super-beautiful design and the already mentioned great location make the Can Cota Boutique Hotel a must-have on the route in the romantic hinterland of Inca.

What we particularly like: The stunning wide view from the hotel and the picturesque alleys around the hotel are unique.
